My Lord Duke,

With reference to Mr. Severn's telegram of 16th October, 1922, regarding the appointment of assistent school masters in the Education Department of this Colony,

I have the honour to state that an application has been received from Mr. Alexander White, at present employed as Warrent Officer, Class I, in the Army Educational Corps, e teacher in the Garrison School of this Colony.

Application forms filled up by Mr. White with copies of his testimonials and a statement regarding his war service are enclosed. He hes furnished satisfactory evidence of his age, and has been certified medically fit, subject to having his teeth properly attended to.

Mr. White's educational qualificatione ere

not of a very high order, and he would not be suitable for promotion to any of the higher posts in the Service, but

in view of the difficulty of obtaining proper) y qualified men to fill existing vacancies in the Education Departmert, and of the likelihood of further vacancies occurring soon, I propose, subject to your approval, to offer him a three years' agreement on a salary of £400 rising to £600 by ennual increments of £20.
